Love Never Dies

Girls, I went to see Love Never Dies last night and while I loved the original Phantom, the show is not what I would call a Phantom 2. The plot has a few shocks, but in some ways is reasonably predictable, I did though feel that the end did not leave me with the dramatic imagery of the original Phantom. The music was well structured and the songs told the story well and the Lead, Ben Lewis was amazing, his voice and range just carried the show. The stage production was visually stunning, it did though lack the mystery and suspense of its predecessor. The problem I had was that the Phantom this time seemed to have mellowed, being seen more than not and the mystery and suspense of the first Phantom void in this production. When the show ended I was a little stunned and felt that something was missing, I just can’t put my finger on it. Anyway it is a good night out, and maybe I was expecting far too much. Anyway go have a look and you be the judge. Share

Phantom fans, theatre critics and regular theatre-goers have expressed similar experiences. Thousands have warned others the sequel is no match to the original. Phantom Needs NO Sequel! http://www.LoveShouldDie.com
I guess it depends on what you are anticipating…. and this show takes more than one viewing to really begin to see all the nuances that are intertwined in the stoty.
For me the whole thing is amazing and as a Phan from way back – I find this matured Phantom more human and he has developed a vulnerability that makes him more dimensional.
He has tasted true love – and although he tries to resort to his old ways (threats etc) it is clear that his night beneath a moonless sky with Christine has left an indelible mark.
it’s a beautiful love story – Christine is torn between her childhood love – who cannot give her all that she needs and is aware of it – and the passion for her ‘angel of music’.
I laughed – I cried – I sat there stunned at the beauty of the sets and costumes and the voices of the leads – a five star experience for me!! But you are right everyone should see it and judge for themselves.
Some people are more easily pleased than others.
Have you seen it Sally?
